I want to share one of my favorite websites that I always share with students when we first start working together. It takes a little time to learn how to find the sounds you seek if you are unfamiliar with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), what manner, place and voicing are, and monophthongs versus diphthongs (all of which I will discuss if we get a chance to work together), but after you learn, |
this is an invaluable resource for those seeking to obtain a more Standard American English accent. The website is called: Phonetics: The sounds of American English.
After you locate the sound you want to imitate, you can click on an animated video of the sound being produced or a step-by-step description of how to move your lips, tongue and jaw. You can also watch a real person say the sound and click on various words that contain that sound.
